ROBERT ATTENDED MONTREAL COMIC-CON ON SATURDAY 6 JULY 2019 FOR AUTOGRAPHS, PHOTO OPS AND PANEL WITH CAMERON BRODEUR
RS: I do. I mean, especially for the kind of more emotionally raw days. By the end of the day you’re so wrecked. You 're incredibly adrenalised but as soon as you’re out of the costume and you’re on your way home, it just wears off, you know what I mean? It’s like when you do something , like a very stressful job
RS: Yes, for a number of months and as soon as you finish the job, you get sick. You know what I mean? It’s like your body just goes no...So I usually just collapse into bed after those emotional days.
B: I bet! So I’m a really big Bad Samaritan fan
RS: Nice! That’s great I’ll tell Dean you said it!
B: (Laugh) Yes that’s why I’m all dressed as Katie
RS: Yeah! Yeah you are! Oh Kerry she just texted me the other day , she is lovely, she said « Hey can you call me soon I’d like to see you! »
B: Oh my god! (Laugh)
RS: She is so sweet
B: So I have got to ask you something about Bad Samaritan
RS: Oh please! You can ask several!
Laugh
B: Where do you think Sean’s life went after the events of the movie?
RS: Well we explored that, you know, we explored the idea of doing a sequel. But I think he sort of gets his life back together, in terms of, you know, he gets a living wage and grows kind of up a little bit, the whole thing is a kind of maturation of a young man to a man. But I think the link to Cale, David’s character, continues
B: Yes like how can you forget that!
RS: Yeah and also, quite literally because if you consider him like a Ted Bundy figure, well with Bundy they are trying to ascertain how many victims he had, like how do we get things right. So I think the FBI tries to put Cale under the same pressure in order to confess for all the girls he has killed for many many years and I think they use Sean because they understand that Cale has this strange affection, this strange camaraderie, twisted caneraderie so I think their relationship continues in a very strange way a la the FBI profiler / unibomber There’s a kind of mutual respect, I mean not necessarily mutual but definitely a respect from Cale to Sean. So he’s not totally free of him! And I don’t think he ever will be as he said. (Laugh).
B: Okay, so which scene as Klaus are you the most proud of?
RS: I like all the sort of getting clean post-Vietnam stuff. Because I thought it was very believable in terms of how a character like that would sort of cope with that terrible terrible pressure and it wasn't without a wrynessss and a humour And yes I really really like all that stuff, I really like the scenes where he is reminiscing about Dave, Vietnam and the fighting and atrocities in Vietnam. All that stuff I really really loved. And ….Diego tying me to the chair and then getting tied to another chair...
B: You should start a count of how many times you've been tied to a chair
RS: Not enough frankly !
B: So let’s see, do you have any current reading material? Any books you like?
RS: At the moment?
B: Yeah!
RS: Well you’ll never guess, at the moment I’m reading a book called…drum roll please! Are you ready? (Drum roll) Extraterrestrial Sex Fetish!
B: Oh wow!
RS: So, it’s from a anonymous author and philosopher, called Superpervert. Who is presumably...
B: Yeah!
RS: And it’s really…super pervert (laugh) It’s not the easiest book to read but it’s fascinating, it’s really really interesting. They go through all the philosophers since the Enlightenment all of their attitudes towards exo-philosophy. And all of the great thinkers of the last 300-400 years & what are their takes on what it is to be alien.
There's also a character called Mercury de Sade who is a sex-fetishist but only for extra terrestrials. He's done this weird journey to find the limits of his fetish
B: Yes, so is it actually like a story or?
RS: It’s both. It sort of jumps between the two. It's tough but it's great !
B: Thanks very much
RS: Thanks for coming and being patient. Thank you assistant ( to Brooke, Brittany's friend)
B: I will see you at the photo op
RS : OK my love!
