Hi guys! Clara here. I have just seen the incredible Dean Devlin movie ’Bad Samaritan’ in Belgium. When I went out of the cinema I thought I’d never give my car to a valet anymore. Returning to the car park, I discovered the car was unlocked. Then I thought the film was real! I had genuinely forgotten to lock the car! Fortunately, nobody had stolen anything, I had the keys with me and my house was ok. Although, I can’t find my watch today…;)
So here is my Bad Samaritan’s review. Don’t worry there are no spoilers. I don’t want Cale to correct me!
First of all, I’d like to say you don’t have to be worried about the violence. The film doesn’t show anything too terrible, bloody or hard to watch which a big positive point! Director Dean Devlin managed to make you perceive the atrocity Cale is capable of doing without showing too much. As a result, it’s still a thriller movie without switching to a gory horror film. And that’s certainly something very interesting and easier to watch. So this is a first good reason to see it.
After that, Robert Sheehan as Sean Falco is just extraordinary. Robert is a very talented actor, who managed to interpret Sean as a normal guy, who reacts exactly like somebody would do in reality. The suspense effect is created by the powerlessness of Sean to settle the various troubling elements he’s living. Stuck in his misfortune, he fails to get help from the police. Robert interprets the horror Sean is living so well that you are aware of his distress and you can feel this awful nightmare he is experiencing. Sometimes, I was so captivated by the film that I totally forgot who I was. Is that normal, seriously? :)
David Tennant is also amazing as Cale Erendreich. He’s so scary! Wow! But he also can make you perceive the feelings a psychopath can have. Very impressive! I remember there was a surprising scene and a girl behind me screamed so other people screamed too and then we were all laughing at ourselves in the cinema room. It proves that the actors and the atmosphere are very captivating.
Kerry Condon and Carlito Olivero are superb! They are very talented too, funny in places and did remarkable scenes! In addition of the great story written by Brandon Boyce and the impressive directing by Dean Devlin, the actors definitely make the film! They are so well chosen, all of them. Bad Samaritan also stars Jacqueline Byers, Lisa Brenner, Hannah Barefoot, Delpaneaux Wills.
In addition to being scary, the movie is also funny which makes you even more enjoy it. And the setting where the story takes place is stunning. There are beautiful shots of Portland and its environment. Even if a psychopath is living there, it makes you want to go and visit this place! Oregon looks superb. All the scenes and locations are great, and well directed.
Congratulations to Dean Devlin and all the cast and crew! Because of you I had a fabulous time! Although I’m now reassessing my lifestyle and my vision of valets and Maserati Cars…(in the hope I might one day own one) :)
Please go and watch the film if you can! Support Independent film! Thanks!
